The STIHL RLA 240 is the ideal solution for scarifying or dethatching smaller, more irregular lawns without the constraints of a power cable. As part of the STIHL AK System, this scarifier is powered by a 36V lithium-ion battery, offering complete freedom of movement and zero emissions during operation.
With a working width of 34 cm (approx 13″), the RLA 240 strikes a perfect balance between efficiency and manoeuvrability, making it particularly effective on lawns with intricate shapes and corners. This model offers exceptional versatility, allowing you to either scrape the turf with the scarifying blade unit for improved aeration or comb dead grass and moss from your lawn using the spring tine roller. Swapping between the tools is a simple process, requiring just a few steps.

The working depth can be finely tuned using the infinitely adjustable scale, with a range from 7.5 mm above ground to 9.5 mm below the surface, ensuring you can adapt to the specific needs of your lawn. All plant remains are collected in the large 50-litre grass catcher box, leaving a tidy finish.

Constructed with a lightweight yet robust polymer housing, the STIHL RLA 240 is both energy-efficient and highly stable. Its easy-running wheels enhance its agility, while the foldable handlebar and two integrated carrying handles make transport and storage straightforward. What is the difference between scarifying and dethatching with the RLA 240?
The STIHL RLA 240 includes two attachments for complete lawn care. The scarifying unit uses fixed blades to cut into the turf, improving aeration and water penetration. The spring tine attachment is less aggressive; it combs through the grass to remove surface-level moss and dead grass (thatch) without cutting into the soil.
Which battery and charger are compatible with the RLA 240?
The RLA 240 is part of the STIHL AK System. It is compatible with AK 10, AK 20, and AK 30 batteries, and the AL 101 charger. For the best balance of performance and runtime, STIHL recommends the AK 30 battery, which can cover up to 250 m² on a single charge. Please note this product is sold as the tool only; battery and charger must be purchased separately.
Is the RLA 240 suitable for large lawns?
The RLA 240 is specifically designed for small to medium-sized lawns, especially those with irregular shapes or obstacles, up to a maximum of 250 m². Its 34 cm working width makes it very manoeuvrable. For larger lawns, a wider petrol or professional-grade scarifier may be more suitable.
What is included when I buy the STIHL RLA 240 (Tool Only)?
This ‘Tool Only’ version includes the main body of the RLA 240 scarifier, the scarifying blade attachment, the spring tine roller attachment, and the 50-litre grass collection box. It does not include a battery or a charger, which must be purchased separately if you don’t already own tools from the STIHL AK System.
