The STIHL HS 87 R is a professional-grade petrol hedge trimmer engineered for demanding pruning tasks. Equipped with a powerful 2-MIX engine and a single-sided 75cm (30″) cutting blade, it’s specifically designed to tackle the toughest, thickest hedges with ease. Its combination of a lower blade speed and large tooth spacing provides the high cutting force needed for heavy growth, making it an ideal choice for professional landscapers and groundskeepers.
With a reduction in weight and increased efficiency, the HS 87 R makes light work of all heavy trimming tasks. Please remember to check your work area for wildlife, such as nesting birds, before starting any hedge trimming work.
The STIHL 2-MIX engine is highly power-efficient, reducing both exhaust emissions and fuel consumption, which in turn lowers operating costs. This 2-stroke engine is designed for low maintenance and uses fuel efficiently even at high power levels. It runs on a mixture of petrol and engine oil and complies with the strict EU Stage V emissions directive.
For large-volume pruning, a hedge trimmer with the pruning ‘R’ version allows work to be carried out more quickly and easily. R-version blades are equipped with large blade spacing and increased blade height. The specially designed gear ratio ensures a very high cutting force, ideal for cutting back thick hedges and shrubs at a large scale.
Vibrations from power tools can be particularly noticeable in the grip area. The buffer and spring elements of the STIHL anti-vibration system reduce the transmission of engine vibrations to the handle area and therefore to the operator’s body. The result is that the power tool is more comfortable to hold, and work is much less tiring.
The fully enclosed electronic ignition system ensures reliable starting and trouble-free engine running. The high ignition voltage provides a stable ignition spark and a long spark burn time, which improves fuel combustion and reduces exhaust emissions.
The manual fuel pump reduces the number of strokes required to start the tool, making the start-up process quicker and easier. This is particularly helpful after longer breaks in operation. By actuating the pump several times before starting, it ensures that there is enough petrol in the carburettor to begin with.
The tool-free fuel cap allows you to open and close the fuel tank in just a few simple steps, thanks to a convenient bayonet closure. This makes refuelling quick and easy without the need for additional tools.
