The Hansa C5 is a straightforward chipper designed with simplicity in mind. Hansa describes it as the big brother of its Garden range: it shares the compactness and light weight of the C4, while having a heavier flywheel, a higher outlet chute and the horsepower of the C7. It chips branches and prunings up to 60 mm in diameter and produces a stated wood chip size of 5–10 mm.

Power comes from a 6.5 HP Honda GP200 petrol engine with recoil starting. The C5 has a 3.1 L fuel tank and a single belt drive. Its large inlet opening is positioned at a comfortable operating height, and the specially angled inlet chute works with the 6.6 kg cutting disc to pull branches and prunings into and through the machine. The cutting knives shear material against an adjustable hardened anvil in a scissor-like action.

Construction, handling and maintenance

Engineered and manufactured in New Zealand, the C5 is made from steel with a durable powder-coated finish. Hansa chipper housings use solid 5 mm and 10 mm steel, and all surfaces are media blasted before powder-coating. At 67 kg, the machine is balanced across solid 250 mm wheels and can be moved around by one person.

The low-maintenance design has minimal moving parts. It uses one A8 modified tool steel knife, measuring 110 x 42 x 6 mm. Hansa gives the knife an approximate lifespan of 300 hours across 10 sharpenings. The cutting disc measures 286 x 10 mm, weighs 6.6 kg and runs at 3,600 RPM.
