The Hansa C4 is a solid, lightweight petrol wood chipper designed to handle the demands of the domestic garden, including fibrous materials. With a maximum chipping capacity of 50 mm diameter, it is suited to garden owners processing branches and prunings. Material enters through a single inlet chute and is discharged from the side through a fixed outlet.

Power comes from a Honda GP160 petrol engine rated at 5.5 HP / 4.1 kW, with recoil starting. The C4 has a 3.1 L fuel tank. Its specially angled inlet chute and cutting disc provide a self-feeding action: branches and prunings are pulled into and through the machine. The large inlet opening is positioned at a comfortable operating height.

Cutting system and construction

The cutting action shears material against an adjustable hardened anvil in a scissor-like motion. The single knife is made from A8 modified tool steel and measures 110 x 42 x 6 mm. Hansa states an approximate knife lifespan of 300 hours across 10 sharpenings. The cutting disc measures 286 x 6 mm, weighs 4.5 kg and runs at 3,600 RPM. The resulting wood chip size is 5–10 mm.

Engineered and manufactured in New Zealand, the C4 is made of steel with a durable powder-coated finish and zinc shield rust protection. Hansa chipper housings use solid 5 mm and 10 mm steel, and all surfaces are media blasted before powder-coating. The chipper has minimal moving parts and is described as low-maintenance.

Moving, accessories and warranty

At 66 kg, the C4 can be moved around by one person and is balanced across solid 250 mm wheels for movement in and out of a garden shed. The optional C3e/C4 clip-on catcher bag collects discharged material. The optional Hansa Chipper Cover fits the C3e, C4, C5 and C7.
