A few stems with a pair of hand secateurs is nothing. An afternoon cutting back roses, shrubs and fruit bushes is a different matter, and by the end of it most people’s hands and wrists know about it. The STIGA SC 100e takes the effort out. You position the blades, pull the trigger, and the 500 W brushless motor makes the cut in around 0.4 seconds, on stems and branches up to 30 mm across.
If stiff hands or a weak grip have made pruning a chore, electric pruners like these are worth a serious look. They’re equally useful for anyone with a big garden, a long hedge line or an orchard, where the sheer number of cuts is the problem rather than any single one.
The blade opening is set digitally from the control panel to 15, 25 or 30 mm. A narrower opening means a shorter, quicker stroke and better precision for deadheading and soft growth, while the full 30 mm opening is there for woody branches. It’s a small thing that makes a real difference to how fast you can work through a border.
The blades are SK85 carbon steel, a hard, high-grade steel that holds a very sharp edge. A clean cut rather than a crushed one heals faster and gives disease less chance to get in, which matters more on roses and fruit trees than almost anywhere else.
The trigger is designed for two fingers and has a lock-off button, and the software locks the secateurs automatically when they’ve been left in standby. That’s what you’d expect, but it’s worth being straight about one thing. Powered secateurs close as soon as you pull the trigger, and unlike hand secateurs they won’t stop if a finger strays into the blades. Keep your free hand well clear of the cut, wear gloves, and they’re a very safe tool to use.
The kit comes with a STIGA ePower 20V 2Ah battery and charger, which is good for over 2,000 cuts on a single charge. The battery’s smart energy management adjusts power to the cut you’re making, so light stems use less charge than thick branches. For long pruning sessions, the SC 100e also takes the 20V 4Ah battery, and the same batteries are shared across STIGA’s 20V ePower range of garden tools.
The SC 100e is at its best on shrubs, roses, flower beds, fruit bushes and small fruit trees. For branches thicker than 30 mm, reach for loppers or a pruning saw rather than forcing the secateurs. STIGA’s PR 100e battery pruning saw runs on the same 20V batteries and handles branches up to 100 mm, so between the two you can cover almost any pruning job in the garden.

Up to 30 mm in diameter. Green, living wood cuts more easily than old, dry deadwood of the same thickness, so if a branch near the limit makes the secateurs struggle, switch to loppers or a pruning saw rather than forcing it. That protects the blades and the motor, and you’ll get a cleaner cut.
Use the smallest opening that fits the stem. The 15 mm setting is ideal for deadheading and soft growth, because the shorter stroke is quicker and easier to place accurately. Use 25 mm for general shrub and rose pruning, and save the full 30 mm opening for woody branches.
Over 2,000 cuts from the 2Ah battery supplied in the kit. The battery adjusts its power to the cut, so a session of light deadheading will go further than one spent on thick, woody branches. If you prune for long stretches, the 20V 4Ah battery gives you more time between charges.
Yes, if they’re from the STIGA ePower 20V range. The same batteries power STIGA’s 20V garden tools, and the battery recognises which tool it’s fitted to and adjusts its settings to suit. If you already own 20V STIGA batteries, ask us whether a kit or a tool-only option makes more sense for you.
Yes, used sensibly. The SC 100e has a two-finger trigger with a lock-off button, and it locks itself automatically after sitting in standby. The one habit to build is keeping your free hand away from the blades. Powered secateurs complete the cut as soon as the trigger is pulled, and they won’t stop the way you would with hand secateurs if you felt a finger in the way. Wear gloves, hold the stem below the cut, and they’re a very safe tool.
That’s one of the main reasons people buy them. The motor does the cutting, so pruning takes a trigger pull rather than a hard squeeze. If you have stiff hands or a weaker grip, come and hold a pair in our showroom first, so you can check the weight and balance feel right for you before you buy.
For selective pruning, yes: cutting out old wood, thinning, and shaping individual branches. For trimming the face and top of a hedge, a hedge trimmer is much quicker, since secateurs make one cut at a time. Many gardeners use both, the hedge trimmer for the regular shape-up and the secateurs for the careful work around it.

Always remove the battery first. After each session, wipe the blades clean, since sap and resin build up and make the secateurs work harder. Dry them and give them a light wipe of oil before storing, especially over winter. Never use them on anything other than plant material, as wire and plastic ties will damage the edge. If the blades get damaged or dull, talk to us about genuine STIGA spares.
