Yes, it’s the same machine. STIHL UK lists it as the RMA 750 V, part number WA70 011 1400, and some suppliers use RMA 750.0 V. The specification, batteries and warranty are identical.

Both are 72V professional mowers on the same two-battery system, with the same Vario drive and aluminium construction. The RMA 750 V is the 4-in-1: it collects into an 80 litre box, mulches, side discharges and cuts and drops, from a 48cm deck. The RMA 7 RV is a dedicated mulching mower with a wider 51cm deck, it’s lighter at 45kg, and it covers more ground per charge. If you need to collect, choose the 750 V. If you mulch almost everything and want to cover more ground per battery, the 7 RV is the better fit.

It’s also a natural choice for anyone already running STIHL AP or ALLPRO tools, since the batteries are shared across the system.

For most home gardens, honestly, probably not. It weighs 50 kg before the batteries go in, and once you’ve added two batteries and a charger the total cost is well above a good domestic cordless mower. It does make sense for a large lawn mown hard every week, or if you already own STIHL professional batteries. The mower is sold tool only and needs two batteries. STIHL now recommends a pair of ALLPRO AP 300 P, which give up to 750 m² per charge. AP 500 S (up to 765 m²) and AP 300 S (up to 640 m²) batteries also work. AP 200 S batteries will run it with reduced performance, and it won’t run on a single battery or the AR L backpack battery. For charging, the AL 301 and AL 501 both work, and the AL 1802 MO is the fastest option with ALLPRO batteries.

Yes. The new ALLPRO system is fully backward compatible, so the AP 300 S and AP 500 S batteries you already use in STIHL trimmers, blowers and hedge trimmers will run this mower. You’ll need two of them fitted at the same time.

Up to 765 m² on a pair of AP 500 S batteries, 750 m² on a pair of ALLPRO AP 300 P, and 640 m² on a pair of AP 300 S. Those are STIHL’s maximums in good conditions. Long, wet or dense grass, collecting rather than mulching, and running in auto-boost all bring the figure down, while Eco mode stretches it. If you’re mowing all day, plan on a second pair of batteries charging in the van while the first pair works, and you’ll rarely have to stop.

No tools are needed. Fit the grass box to collect, take it off to cut and drop, open the side discharge flap on the deck to discharge, or fit the mulching insert to mulch. The multi-blade handles both mowing and mulching, so there’s no blade change. We run through each one at handover, and STIHL recommends reading the owner’s manual before you start.

The mower adjusts from 25 mm to 100 mm at each wheel. As a rule, take no more than a third off the grass in one cut. Cutting harder than that stresses the lawn and leaves more clippings than any box or mulching deck can deal with cleanly. For mulching, keep the height a notch higher so the clippings drop down between the blades of grass. In spring, bring the height down over a few cuts rather than all at once, and raise it again in a dry spell to help the lawn hold on to moisture.

The drive runs from 0 to 6 km/h across five speed levels, controlled from the lever on the handlebar. Drop the speed right down in thick or wet grass so the deck can clear properly, and pick it up on open, dry ground. The display shows which speed setting you’re on.

Yes. STIHL designed it for mowing lawns and slopes, and two features help. The self-drive does the pulling, so you’re not pushing 50 kg of mower uphill, and the individual wheel height adjustment lets you level the deck against the slope so it doesn’t scalp the high side. As with any walk-behind mower, mow across the face of a slope rather than up and down it, and check the owner’s manual for STIHL’s guidance on steeper ground.

Yes. It’s rated IPX4, which means protection against splashing water from all sides, so a shower won’t stop the job. The cut will always be better on dry grass though, and wet clippings clog any grass box faster, so side discharge is often the better choice on a damp day.

Not by as much as people expect. Its guaranteed sound power level is 96 dB(A), which puts it in the same league as a professional petrol mower, so you’ll still need ear protection. Most of the noise comes from the blade moving air, not the motor. What you do lose is the engine drone at idle, the exhaust fumes and the fuel smell, which makes a real difference on sites like schools, care homes and residential estates.

Far less than a petrol mower, since there’s no oil, fuel, spark plug or air filter. Always take both batteries out before you touch the deck or blade. After each use, brush the grass off the underside and the grass box so the airflow stays strong, particularly if you’ve been mulching or collecting wet grass. Keep the blade sharp and balanced, as a blunt blade tears the grass and flattens the batteries faster. The scuff strips and polymer lining can be replaced when they wear.
