Professional Cordless Power for Grounds Maintenance
The STIHL RMA 7 RV (also listed as the RMA 7.0 RV) is a professional battery-powered mulching lawn mower, built for landscapers, grounds maintenance teams and anyone mowing hard for a living. It runs on two AP batteries at once to work at 72 volts, which puts its mowing performance in the same bracket as STIHL’s RM 756 professional petrol mower. You get that without mixing fuel, changing oil, or breathing exhaust fumes all day.
It is built to be worked hard. The aluminium deck has a polymer inner casing and a corrosion-resistant powder coating, and the parts that take the most punishment, such as the metal scuff strips and the polymer lining, can be replaced rather than meaning a new deck. Cutting height is set at each wheel individually between 25mm and 100mm, so you can level the cut on uneven ground or banks rather than scalping one side.
Advanced Features and Operator Comfort
The RMA 7 RV mulches, returning finely cut clippings to the lawn as a natural feed, or collects into its 80 litre fabric grass box when a clean finish matters more. The box has a steel frame with a carrying handle, a polymer base and tear-resistant fabric, and on long days that capacity means fewer walks to the trailer.
Controls sit on the mono-comfort handlebar, where a display shows battery charge, the selected mode, the maximum drive speed and any faults. Eco mode matches motor speed to the load so you get more area out of each charge on lighter work. The Vario drive is infinitely variable up to 6 km/h through the control lever, so you can slow right down in heavy grass and open it up across a playing field.
The handlebar is fixed to one side of the mower only, which leaves a clear run to lift the grass box off and empty it. It adjusts for height without tools and folds down for the van. The mower carries a 2 year professional warranty, subject to registration and servicing, and the mono-comfort handlebar itself has a 5 year professional warranty.
Battery Performance and Requirements
This is a tool-only model. It needs two batteries and a charger from the STIHL AP System, and it will not run on one battery. The area you can cut per charge depends on which batteries you fit:

For contract work we’d point most people at a pair of AP 500 S batteries, and a second pair on charge in the van if you’re cutting all day. Is the RMA 7.0 RV the same as the RMA 7 RV?
Yes, it’s the same machine. STIHL UK lists it as the RMA 7 RV, and some suppliers and earlier listings use RMA 7.0 RV. The specification, batteries and warranty are identical.
Who is the STIHL RMA 7 RV best suited for?
It’s designed for professional users: landscapers, grounds maintenance contractors, estates and local authorities who need a cordless mower that will stand up to daily commercial use. It is also a good fit for anyone already running STIHL AP tools, since the batteries are shared across the whole system.
Is it a sensible choice for a domestic garden?
For most home gardens, honestly, probably not. It weighs 45 kg before the batteries go in, and once you’ve added two AP batteries and a charger the total cost is well above a good domestic cordless mower. Where it does make sense at home is a large lawn or paddock that’s mown hard every week, or if you already own AP batteries. If you’re unsure, tell us about your garden and we’ll point you to the right machine, even if that means a smaller one.
What batteries and charger do I need?
The mower is sold as a tool only and needs two batteries from the STIHL AP System. STIHL recommends two AP 300 S or two AP 500 S batteries. It will run on AP 200 S batteries with reduced performance, but it won’t run on a single battery or the AR L backpack battery. You’ll also need an AP System charger such as the AL 301, or the faster AL 501 if you’re turning batteries round during the working day.
Does it collect grass as well as mulch?
Yes. It comes with an 80 litre fabric grass box on a steel frame, so you can collect when you want a clean finish and mulch when you’d rather feed the lawn and skip emptying the box. The one-sided handlebar leaves the back of the mower clear, which makes lifting the box off noticeably easier than on a conventional twin-handle mower.
Is the RMA 7 RV self-propelled?
Yes. The Vario drive is infinitely variable from 0 to 6 km/h using the control lever on the handlebar, and you can set the maximum drive speed on the display. In practice that means walking pace through thick or wet grass and a brisk pace on open ground, without fighting the machine either way.
How does it compare to a petrol mower?
STIHL rates its mowing performance as comparable to the RM 756 professional petrol mower. What you lose is the fuel can, the oil changes, the pull cord and the exhaust fumes, which matters on sites like schools, care homes and residential estates. It isn’t a quiet machine, though. At 96 dB(A) guaranteed sound power, it’s in the same league as a professional petrol mower, so you’ll still want ear protection.
What warranty does it come with?
The mower carries a 2 year professional warranty, subject to registration and servicing, and the mono-comfort handlebar has a 5 year professional warranty. Our workshop is STIHL-trained, so we can carry out the servicing that keeps the warranty valid.
