Powerful Petrol Chainsaw for Home Use
The STIHL MS 172 is a robust petrol chainsaw designed specifically for homeowners and domestic users. It provides an excellent solution for a variety of garden tasks, from processing firewood for the winter to felling small trees. The MS 172 packs plenty of power to get the job done efficiently and reliably.
At its core is the advanced STIHL 2-MIX engine, which provides great cutting performance while maintaining low fuel consumption and reduced emissions. This model is fitted with a 12-inch guide bar and a 3/8″ P saw chain, a combination that delivers high cutting performance thanks to its narrow kerf. For enhanced operator comfort, the integrated STIHL anti-vibration system reduces the transmission of vibrations to the handle, relieving strain on muscles and joints during longer periods of work.
User-Focused Design and Features
STIHL has engineered the MS 172 with ease of use in mind. The single-lever operation and combi-lever with stop function make it effortless to restart the machine after interruptions. Practical features such as the transparent fuel and oil tanks allow the user to see at a glance when a top-up is needed, preventing unnecessary downtime. The side-mounted chain tensioning system makes adjustments safe, quick, and simple.

Advanced Engine Technology
The MS 172 benefits from several of STIHL’s innovative technologies. The compensator, a control system in the carburettor, uses pressure compensation to ensure that engine performance, exhaust quality, and fuel consumption remain virtually constant over time, even as the air filter becomes contaminated. This reduces the need for frequent maintenance. Furthermore, the four-channel technology within the engine guides the fuel-air mixture into the cylinder in a more targeted and compressed manner, which optimises fuel combustion and significantly increases engine performance.
